Pushy Face (Self Portrait #5)

+ View the piece on Flickr.

Did another photo shoot of ugly Mikes tonight. This time I tried to do some more grotesque stretching and pushing on my face to get more contrast in the form.

Some really nice stuff happened in the mouth part. And while I erased more than I intended to in the upper-left quadrant, doing so pushed me to pay more attention to other areas. I have a bad habit of fully rendering a drawing — not giving the eye a place (or places) to rest.

You guys would totally hang a huge distorted, twisted portrait of me in your living rooms, right? Like a REALLY BIG one?

HB and 2B charcoal pencil and a Staedtler Mars plastic eraser.

I really want a portrait like that in my room, but… with watercolors or gouache :D
